Author Guidlines
 
INSTRUCTION TO THE CONTIRIBUTORS
 
1.   THE INDIAN VETERINARY JOURNAL (Official organ of Indian Veterinary Association) established in 1924, publishes papers of original work as General, Clinical and Short communications on Veterinary and Animal husbandry. For fisheries, articles pertaining to fish diseases, fish pathology and marine medicine only will be considered and not on any other subjects. In addition News, Reviews on books, In Memoriam and other cognate matters pertaining to animal health, disease and production and progress of veterinary profession in general will also be published.
 
2.   Papers are accepted for publication on the clear understanding
a)    That they have neither been published nor being considered for publication elsewhere. All the authors should sign a certificate to this effect in respect of each article sent for publication. Covering letter should indicate the names, qualification and full address of all the authors.
b)   That the research work has been carried out with the approval of the Institutional Ethics committee and as per the laws in force at the time of carrying out the work and at the time of sending the paper for publication in the country in which the research work was carried out. A certificate to this effect should be signed by all the authors. Authors should get written permission from concerned authorities for publication of articles on emerging and exotic diseases.
c)   All the authors are jointly and severally responsible to the various authorities for the contents of the articles. Neither the Editor nor publisher hold themselves responsible in any manner whatsoever to the contents of the article and the views and interpretation expressed by the author in the article. All disputes regarding any legal proceeding pertaining to the journal shall be within the jurisdiction of the High Court of Judicature at Chennai
 
3.   Authors should clearly indicate whether the article is a new or revised or copy of the article already sent. The letter should also furnish complete postal address and e-mail id. of the corresponding author. A processing fee of Rs.100/- for Indian and USD 10/- for foreign article has to be sent along with the article as Demand draft or International cheque in favor of the Editor, Indian Veterinary Journal and payable at Chennai. Payment of processing fee will not ensure publication of the article.
 
4.   It is mandatory that each and every Indian author of the article should be a subscriber of the print or online version of the Journal. Foreign authors should subscribe to the online version of the journal.
 
5.   Article should be typed in A4 size paper in double space, following the format of the Indian Veterinary Journal. Two copies should be sent to the Editor, Indian Veterinary Journal, 11, Chamiers Road, Nandanam, Chennai, 600 035, India. Drawings should be on Bristol board and figures should be clear glossy photographs of maxi size. The number of drawings or/and photographs should not exceed four per article. For accepted articles, authors should pay publication charges. For accepted papers from abroad, publication charge in USD should be paid as international bankers cheque in favour of the Editor, Indian Veterinary Journal
 
6.   The decision of the Editor shall be final in all matters pertaining to publication of papers. Editor has the right to do editorial revision of accepted paper with reference to the number of pages, tables and figures before publication if considered necessary. No reason shall be given for non-acceptance of the article. The copyright shall rest with the journal and no part of any paper can be reproduced without the specific permission of the Editor.
 
7.   Receipt of the articles will be acknowledged with the registration number. The author should return the comments of the referees and original article along with two copies of revised articles. When articles are accepted for publication, acceptance letter would be sent with a request to make payments towards the publication charges and subscription. Only on receipt of the full payment of processing fees, publication charges and subscription (arrears and current year) articles will be taken up for publication. The articles are published chronologically, subject wise.

Short Communication: Brief introduction (without heading), Materials and methods, Results and Discussion, Acknowledgment (Optional) References. (Not to exceed 3 pages)
 
The page limit is inclusive of tables and references.
 
Citing References: In the text, references should be cited by the names of the authors followed by the year of publication in parenthesis. If more than two authors are there, the name of the first author followed by et al. should be used. If within the same section of the article, the reference is repeated, instead of the year loc.cit. should be used within the parenthesis. List of References furnished at the end of the article, should be arranged alphabetically. The author’s name should be followed by the initials and before the last author ‘and’ should be used. The year of publication should be cited with parenthesis. The journal name with approved abbreviation should be in italics, the volume number should be in bold letter and the starting page number should be given after a colon and followed by a full stop. While citing books, Publisher, place of publication, Edition, should be given with the pages cited. If the same journal is cited again consecutively the word ibid should be used. ‘Web site’, ‘in press’ and ‘personal communications’ should not be included as references. Latest references most relevant to the subject only to the included. The Internationally approved standard abbreviations of the title of the journals only to be used while listing the references
